Challenges Impacting Diversity in Construction:
Leading organizations that practice diversity in construction face significant challenges due primarily to a dearth of diverse contractors of scale that can meet the business realities of current day construction projects. We believe this business reality would be better addressed through a collective focus that maximizes resources to generate contractors of scale. Because of this challenge, owners and contractors alike have organized an informal group of Industry Thought Leaders to engage in dialogue around maximizing our collective expertise to make an impactful and sustainable difference . . . The National Forum for Diversity in Construction (NFDC).
The goal of this informal think tank is to maximize the collective expertise of the construction community to support the development of scalable diverse contractors, through viable strategies that will expand both the numbers and the capacity of minority, women and veteran-owned firms as strategic business partners. The objective is simple; to generate strategies that foster diverse contractors of size and capacity to handle the work of GC’s across a number of construction markets both public and private.
Members of the Forum are committed to make a difference. We view diversity as a core component of the business strategy and NFDC has taken on an active and demonstrable role to ramp up the utilization of minority, women and veteran-owned firms in construction and construction-related industries. We are a collective think tank with a focus on best practices in construction diversity to ensure continued expansion of industry supported by a diverse community of operators and owners. To that end, The Forum seeks to launch from that already impressive foundation to maximize the group’s collective expertise in support of this initiative, resulting in new strategic initiatives that will expand the numbers of diverse contractors as well as their size and capacity.
